Biographical / Historical

St. Robert Bellarmine Chapel was canonically established as a parish by John T. McNicholas, the Archbishop of Cincinnati, in 1927. It was located on the first floor of the Schmidt Library building and served as both a student chapel and archdiocesan parish. The "new" Bellarmine Chapel was dedicated and blessed by Karl J. Alter, Archbishop of Cincinnati, on December 16, 1962. The chapel is named in honor of St. Robert Bellarmine, Jesuit theologian and saint. The new chapel also honors the memory of Charles F. and Elizabeth Williams whose five children were the principal donors. The original cost of the "new" chapel was $364,000.00.
