Minutes, 1858 - 1866
Scope and Contents
The minutes discuss debates at each meeting. Topics of debates included "whether slavery was beneficial to society or not," "whether enslaved African Americans were happier in slavery or in freedom," and "whether the system of free schools is beneficial to the country." Most debates were historical arguments, questions on the role of the government, politics, or philosophical questions. Some meeting minutes also include discussions on society officers and a Treasurer's Report that detailed the finances of the club.
