 File — Box: 1, Folder: 3

Content Description

From the Collection:

This collection contains letters written by Joseph Thomas (Tom) Murray to his parents and other family members during his service in World War I from 1917-1919. The letters discuss his military training (particularly in Camp Sherman near Chillicothe, Ohio and Camp Merritt in New Jersey), health, diet, friendships, recreational activities, clothing, and daily life. He documents his attendance at Mass throughout the letters and his activities while in France. Murray writes about his thoughts on the war and its effects on France. In addition to his letters, there is an in memoriam he wrote in 1928 for Monsignor Moran of St. Patrick's Church in Cleveland and two digital images of Murray in uniform, including one with his brother John, likely taken between 1917-1919.
