Commonplace book, 1885-1886
Scope and Contents
Commonplace book of an unknown person. Inlaid between front flyleaf and first page is an envelope inscribed "Julia Fr(?)eely, 943 Paradrome St., Mt. Adams scrapbook." This may be the creator's or the donor's identification. The inscription is written in a hand that is distinct from that found in the commonplace book, which contains handwritten copied poetry and pasted-in clippings, most of which relate to Catholicism and the Catholic Church. Included are clippings regarding the deaths of Fr. Boex, SJ, and Fr. Charles Driscoll, SJ, who had been pastors of St. Xavier Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. A few clippings are dated 1885-1886, but most are undated. Addresses of several individuals are inscribed on the back endpaper.
