Scope and Contents

The Xavier University Student Research Papers Collection contains reports and papers written by select undergraduate and graduate students in fulfillment of course or program requirements from 1943-1993. Some of the papers are undated. This subset of research papers does not represent the entirety of work created by Xavier University students but is a reflection of those that were acquired by University Archives over time from a variety of sources, including academic departments, faculty, and students. Papers represent student work from such disciplines as theology, physics, mathematics, business administration, and chemistry. Some papers are professionally bound, while others are spiral bound or placed in report folders. While undergraduate theses are found in the collection, graduate theses have been removed and added to the library's collection of graduate theses and dissertations.

Conditions Governing Access

Restricted access: Unpublished university items created within the last 40 years may be used only with the permission of the creating office (or the creating office’s divisional leader). Materials are stored offsite; one week's notice required for retrieval. All materials must be viewed in the University Archives and Special Collections Research Room by appointment only. Contact University Archives and Special Collections staff for information.

This collection is arranged in the original order in which it was found by UASC staff in 2023.

Related Materials

Many Xavier University student theses and dissertations can be found in the Electronic Theses and Dissertations Center, hosted by OhioLINK and available to current Xavier University faculty, staff, and students through the library website. Other theses and dissertations are maintained in print in the general library collection and discoverable through the library's online public catalog.

Separated Materials

Papers identified as graduate theses or dissertations were removed from the collection and added to the University Library Thesis and Dissertations Collection. These papers include identification numbers (an ID number was assigned to each paper at time of 2015 inventory): 9, 20, 56, 74, 76, 87, 98, 146, 156, 161, 180, 189, 253, 254, 260, 261, 299, 300, 301, and 302. They have been catalogued and are discoverable through the online public library catalog.

Processing Information

An item-level inventory of the collection was created by a UASC student employee in 2015. No attempt was made to organize items by title, date, or name of author at the time. Collection-level description was created by UASC staff and papers were rehoused in acid-free archival boxes in 2023.
