History of Schmidt Memorial Fieldhouse
Xavier University's Schmidt Memorial Fieldhouse was designed by Joseph G. Steinkamp & Bros. architects. Joseph Steinkamp had attended Xavier University in the late 19th century and had designed Hinkle Hall and Edgecliff Hall (then Alumni Science Building) prior to the fieldhouse and Corcoran Field. The fieldhouse was named after Walter Seton Schmidt, class of 1905. The fieldhouse dedication ceremony was held March 7, 1928 on the evening of the first basketball game against the University of Cincinnati.
