Papers include a scrapbook and a photograph album contain photographs, ephemera, and news clippings documenting James Sweeney's undergraduate life at Xavier University from 1930-1934. The photograph album is chiefly comprised of photographs, clippings, and ephemera highlighting Sweeney's contributions as a member of the football team and also contains photographs of other students, faculty members, and campus buildings. The scrapbook is mostly comprised of ephemera such as postcards, invitations, programs, schedules, and clippings from his participation in student groups and activities.

Biography of James Sweeney

James M. Sweeney, Jr. was from Columbus, Ohio. He attended Holy Rosary High School before attending Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio) from 1930-1934. According to the 1934 Musketeer yearbook, Sweeney was a member of the football team and belonged to several student groups, including the Sodality, Masque Society, Philopedian Society, Junior Prom Committee, and the Xavierian News. He also played basketball during his second year (1931-1932 season). Sweeney graduated from Xavier in 1934. Sweeney died in 1991.
