History of Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio). Office of the Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students is part of the Division of Student Affairs, which began as the Office of Student Affairs in 1966 under the leadership of Patrick Ratterman, SJ, who served as vice president of student affairs. Ratterman had previously been dean of men and chairman of the Student Welfare Committee (1952-1996) as well as director of student activities and director of housing. In 1972 the name changed to the Office for Student Development and in 2007 to the Office for Student Life and Leadership. In 2012 the division was split into the Division for Student Affairs and the Division of Student Enrichment. In 2016, the divisions were rejoined under the Division for Student Affairs. The Dean's office supports the University's efforts to promote student success, wellness, and integrity. Major responsibilities of the office include the publication of the Student Handbook, oversight of resources and services such as McGrath Health and Wellness, and the administration of the student conduct process.
